Registering for the Virgin Money Credit Card online service is simple. Just follow these easy steps:

Step 1:

Enter your new Virgin Money Credit Card number and pin, as well as your email address, ID number, title, name and surname.

Step 2:

Accept the Terms of Use.

Step 3:

Create and confirm your password.

Step 4:

Check your cell phone for SureCheck. If you don’t receive this, you can request a resend.

Step 5:

Check your cell phone for a transaction verification number (TVN) if you still don’t get SureCheck.

  • don’t answer emails asking you to update financial or personal information. this is how phishing happens
  • beware of pharming, which is when your device or machine is infected with a virus that attacks the domain name server (dns). it redirects you to a fake website instead of the site you wanted to go to
  • beware of sim swaps because your personal information could be stolen and used illegally

ATM security

  • always be vigilant when you use your virgin money credit card at any atm
  • stand close to the atm when you punch in your pin number
  • never share your pin
  • don’t ask strangers for help and don’t accept help from anyone you don’t know
  • cancel your transaction if you think someone’s watching you
  • never use an atm with a damaged keypad

FAQ

What’s a credit limit? Why do I have one?

It’s the maximum amount of credit you can have on your card. Your credit limit is always included in the quotation you get when you apply. It’s based on an affordability assessment. If you give us written permission, we will automatically assess your credit limit once a year. Give us a shout on 0861 82 22 73 or internetsupport@virginmoneycard.co.za if you’d like us to do this.

Can I let someone else use my credit?

Nope, only you can use it. If you’d like, you can apply for additional secondary cards that will be linked to your main credit card and share your credit facility. The people you choose to have a secondary card will have the same convenience of using a credit card as you do, but you’ll still be responsible for all the transactions they conduct.

Do I get interest-free credit with my card?

Yes, up to 55 days. You won’t pay a cent of interest on swiped transactions if you settle your outstanding balance in full by the payment due date indicated on your statement. Remember that this doesn’t include cash withdrawals, internet banking transfers, budget transactions or casino transactions. You’ll pay interest on these from the transaction date.

All transactions made during your statement period (this is the total balance on the date your statement is issued) must be paid on or before the payment due date on your statement or you’ll accrue interest. Give us a call on 0861 82 22 73 to change your payment due date.

If I have a positive balance, do I earn interest?

Yup, you do. When you deposit more money into your account than the full balance you owe, you’ll earn interest. Even better is that you won’t be charged any interest on purchases, cash withdrawals or fuel as long as you have a credit balance.

Can I use my card for online purchases? Is this safe?

We’ve made sure you have a secure online experience. When shopping online with a 3D Secure merchant, you’ll receive an SMS with a One-Time Password (OTP) that will validate your transaction. This means you’re protected from fraudulent online use of your card. If you want to use your credit card for online transactions while you’re overseas, make sure your data roaming is enabled.

Do I get travel insurance with my credit card?

If you buy your full return international flight ticket on your Virgin Money Credit Card, we’ll give you basic travel insurance. Remember to let us know if you’re travelling so we can expect to see international transactions on your account. Make sure you check the policy wording before leaving to see whether the cover we give you is enough for your specific needs, subject to Ts&Cs.

How can I keep track of card transactions?

We’ll send you credit card statements every month via email or the post. These will include details of every transaction made with your card. Check these carefully. If you have a query on a transaction or want more information on your statement, give us a call on 0861 82 22 73.

Can you post my statements to me?

Of course! Just let us know on 0861 82 22 73 and we’ll change your delivery method.

Statement delivery is defaulted to electronic, which is our way of considering the environment by saving paper. These statements are exactly the same as the printed ones, we just email them to you for free.

What happens if there’s an error on my statement?

If you see transactions you didn’t make or duplicated transactions, let us know on 0861 82 22 73 within 30 days of your statement date.

How do I look out for unauthorised activity on my card?

Register for NotifyMe on Virgin Money Credit Card Online. You’ll get an SMS whenever there’s activity on your account, so you’re in complete control of your security all the time. Remember you’ll be charged R0.55 per SMS.

What does my card’s “expiry date” mean?

It’s the date after which you won’t be able to use your card. We’ll send you a replacement card(s) in the month in which your card expires if your account is in good standing and you’ve met all standard assessment criteria. After your card expires and you receive the replacement card, destroy the old card by cutting it horizontally through the magnetic strip and through the chip.

What must I do if my card is lost or stolen?

This isn’t a total disaster, because you have free and automatic Lost Card Insurance. Just let us know immediately by calling the 24/7 Lost Card Line on +27 (0) 11 501 5050 and we’ll cancel the card immediately. Depending on assessment approval, we’ll issue you a new card.

How do I get my pin?

Call us on 0861 82 22 73 and select option 6. We’ll read your pin to you.

Make sure your credit card is with you for security verification.

Do I have credit protection?

The Absa Card Life Plan will cover your card’s outstanding debit balance (to a maximum of R50,000) for a small monthly premium of the outstanding balance. This means that, if you die or are permanently and totally disabled, your outstanding balance will be settled in full (limited to the amounts referred to already).

Can I use my card abroad?

Of course! According to the South African Exchange Control Rules and Regulations, a South African resident who is travelling overseas, whether for business or leisure, can use a single discretionary allowance per year, as determined by the South African Reserve Bank. Please make use of these allowances within their limits and subject to compliance with all Exchange Control requirements. Don’t forget to let us know if you’re travelling overseas so we can enable roaming.

How much is the currency conversion fee?

All cross-border and international transactions carry a fee to cover currency conversion. If you or any secondary cardholder conducts transactions outside South Africa, you acknowledge and accept that we will provide details of these transactions to the South African Reserve Bank, South African Revenue Service and/or the Financial Intelligence Centre.

At the time of publication, the permissible allowance is R1,000,000 per adult per calendar year and R200,000 per child per calendar year.

This allowance only applies to travel-related expenses. You can spend up to the allocated amount using a combination of foreign banknotes, foreign currency, travellers’ cheques or your credit card. Your flight ticket isn’t included in the allowance.

Remember to call us on 0861 82 22 73 if you’ll be using your card abroad for any reason other than a short business trip or holiday. We’ll guide you on the Exchange Control Rules and Regulations that you’ll need to keep in mind.

It’s important to remember that you may not use your South African credit card(s) if you’re temporarily overseas for any reason other than a short business trip or holiday (for example, if you’re overseas on a work permit). You must present us with a written undertaking to this effect before you leave the country at your nearest International Banking division.

Can I use my card online to buy overseas goods?

You can make payments in foreign currency for small international purchases (there is a limit of R20,000 per transaction). You still have to comply with all the customs duties and customs authorities requirements.

Can I buy lottery tickets or gamble online abroad using my credit card?

No. According to the Lotteries Act No. 57 of 1997, the Gambling Act No. 7 of 2004 and the current Exchange Control Rules and Regulations, South African residents can’t participate in overseas lotteries or any internet gambling. Using your card for either of these would be breaking this law.

What else should I know?

You may only use your Virgin Money Credit Card for lawful transactions and not for any transaction that is prohibited by South African law. It’s your responsibility to make sure your cards are used lawfully and according to South African legislation.

If you or a secondary cardholder conduct cross-border or international transactions, you might need to pay a currency conversion fee.
